Swami Rama’s Ashram of the Sadhana Mandir Trust, is the spiritual seat of AHYMSIN for all inspiration. Founded in 1966 on the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh, India, Sadhana Mandir Trust was established by Swami Rama as an international retreat center for sincere aspirants to practice meditation in a spiritually elevating environment. Sadhana is the word for a student's sincere efforts along a particular path of practice toward self-realization. The word mandir simply means "house." So Sadhana Mandir means the abode of spiritual practice. Please visit: https://www.sadhanamandir.org/

Swami Rama Institute of Meditation and Interfaith Studies: 3 to 5 years
" ... the goal is to produce graduates who excel in both scholarship and the practical disciplines."
The purpose of the Gurukulam programme is to prepare aspirants as teachers, spiritual guides and citizens able to speak to different cultures and guide them in meditation in its totality, in the context of all cultures. It envisions personal spiritual experience to be the foundation of education in all academic areas. Hence the goal is to produce graduates who excel in both scholarship and the practical disciplines.
Ancient texts and their languages are taught not merely as works of philosophical theory. They are explained in the light of the spiritual experiences from which they have originated. They are taught so that students who are being led through those levels of spiritual experience may understand. At the same time, students develop scholarly understanding of a text by accessing it through the language in which it was written-Sanskrit, for example.
This programme is suitable for persons who are interested in long¬ term intense study while carrying out spiritual practices given by the Spiritual Director. Students commit to a 3 to 5 year (and up to 10 years) of study and training on campus.
Schedule of Classes, Study and Practice :
The class schedule includes daily classes in Sanskrit, hatha yoga, and texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Sankhya-Karika, Bhagavad-Gita etc. Other courses in areas of philosophy, yoga psychology, Ayurveda, religions and yoga anatomy are taught at intervals throughout the year.
In addition to coursework, students have practices in inner awareness, chanting, self-purification and individual practice. The physical aspects of yoga are taught in their meditational context-having meditation as the true experience. Karma yoga or service to the ashram is a regular part of the programme.
The daily routine runs from 5:00 AM to 9:30 PM. Classes are held six days a week.
The academic term is from September through May with a summer break from June to August. Students may stay in residence during the summer.
Full and part-time faculty members are international. They have integrated the profound teaching of meditation with their academic and scientific learning.
English language is the medium of communication, so it is highly recommended that prospective students prepare themselves prior to enrolment. Academic prerequisite is a minimum of a high school diploma although some enrolees already have a college degree.
Ideally the admission process starts at least three months in advance of the fall term. New students are admitted for the fall term.
Meditation Research Institute
In 2005, Swami Veda Bharati decided to establish a research laboratory at the Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama. His teacher Swami Rama had interacted on numerous occasions with scientists all over the world, most famously in his encounter with Elmer Green at the Menninger Foundation in 1970 where he demonstrated exceptional abilities to self-regulate his brain and body, research later used as an important contribution to Green's book Beyond Biofeedback. Swami Veda, through the AHYMSIN, began operating a research laboratory at the Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama.
At the Meditation Research Institute, we aim at understanding the neural correlates of consciousness and especially brain dynamics during meditation. It seems natural that meditation and science should interact when it comes to studying consciousness. Meditation is the study of consciousness from an internal, subjective perspective and science is the study of phenomena, including consciousness, from an external, objective perspective. We believe that through the interaction of meditation and science a more thorough understanding of consciousness will emerge.
We have several articles about the lab here https://www.ahymsin.org/main/index.php/Meditation-Research-Institute/ , or please see their website https://www.meditationresearchinstitute.org/ for more information.
